Dr. Benoy Kumar Barman is Executive Member of MLAF. He is working as Senior Scientist in WorldFish, Bangladesh and South Asia from 2002. Prior to join in the WorldFish worked as BCS (Fisheries Cadre) Officer in the Department of Fisheries from 1983 in different positions with having responsibilities to promote aquaculture and aquatic resources management to benefits the poor.

He received Post-doctoral Research Fellowship, University of Stirling, Scotland UK from 2002-2003, Doctor of Technical Science, Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand, 2000, M. Sc. Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management, AIT, Thailand in 1990, M. Sc. Aquaculture Management, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh in 1983, B. Sc. Fisheries (Hons), Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh, 1982 (1st Class, 2nd Position)

Working Experience

Work as a specialist in the field of aquaculture and aquatic resources management, with special interest on Aquaculture and Gender. Has more than 25 years experience to work in Bangladesh, Vietnam, Thailand, Nepal and India. In 2002 joined at the WorldFish Center, Bangladesh and South Asia Office as Post-doctoral Researcher to lead a collaborative DFID supported research project of WorldFish Center and the University of Stirling, UK for two years. After completion of post-doc, joined permanently as a Scientist to coordinate the research program of the WorldFish, Bangladesh and South Asia Office and continued the activities till now.

Training and Visits

Received 4 months Foundation Training of Bangladesh Civil Service from Public Administration Training Center, Savar, Dhaka, Technical in-country and overseas training and visits to participate  in Seminars, Symposium to present papers in India, Nepal Thailand, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, South Africa, France, South Africa, UK, USA, Norway, Italy and Ethiopia.
